Council Minutes of March 24, 2003

Mayor King called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.   Roll Call showed present Mayor King and Council me n Babbage, Bowdell and Tucci. Councilman Tertzag arrived at 8:07 p.m. Councilpersons Rossman and Burtka were excused. Also present were City Attorney Kruse and City Administrator Welch.

WHEREAS, the United States of A me rica faces peril from those who seek to undermine the endowed dignity of the individual, impose totalitarian govern me ntal control, and to support terrorist activities across the world; and

WHEREAS, our nation was founded on the principle of freedom, the citizens of our country have constantly supported liberty and championed the cause of freedom for all, so it is especially important at this ti me to honor our troops who are so valiantly serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan; therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Allen Park wholeheartedly support our brave troops serving our county in the battle for freedom, and wish them god speed, and we hereby urge all citizens to join us in our salute to the courageous me n and wo me n of the United States Ar me d Forces who are serving our country to preserve basic rights and liberties for the people of the world.

4.      Require all Commissions to post all agendas and minutes on our website.

Resolved, to refer the possibility of the City of Allen Park ’s participation in Public Act 48 to the Legal Affairs Committee.

WHEREAS, the Allen Park Building Authority has outstanding Bonds on the 24th Judicial District Court building; and

WHEREAS, these Bonds can be refinanced at a savings to the City and the Building Authority; and

WHEREAS, the Allen Park Building Authority has requested that these Bonds be refinanced; therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to sign the Refunding Contract for the Allen Park Building Authority Bonds for the 24th Judicial District Court building.

Resolved, that the City of Allen Park award the HVAC Maintenance Service Bid – City Hall to Delta Temperature, Inc. at a cost of $7,484 per year with the stipulation that all proper licenses and insurance require me nts are me t to the City’s satisfaction.

Resolved, to concur with the recom me ndation of the Sidewalk Committee to change the sidewalk replace me nt criteria to the following:

1.      Slab has settled or raised 1 inch or more.

2.      Two adjacent slabs have risen up or settled, causing a high or low point of 1 inch.

3.      Sidewalk slab is sloped too steep (5/8” per foot or 3” in a 5 foot slab).

4.      Spalling ˝” deep by 12” dia me ter or greater.
