The Allen Park Police Department provides service to its citizens through a full time police force. The uniform division ensures rapid response and is divided into three shifts to provide 24 hour service. The Detective Bureau handles the investigation following the initial response by the uniform division.

James Wilkewitz has been named as the city’s interim Police Chief.

With the retirement of Police Chief Dean Tamsen, Detective Lieutenant James Wilkewitz has been named Interim Police Chief for the City of Allen Park.

Interim Chief Wilkewitz has been a member of the Allen Park Police Department for the last 16 years and has worked in all aspects of Police work from Patrolman to Detective to Detective Supervisor.  He possesses an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Michigan and is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command 2009.
